- (1) SECCA DI CASTELASARDO
East Side: 2 routes
Min. 15m - Max. 45m (average/difficult)
-
The east side of
the famous "secca di Castelsardo" reef is the steepest
without doubt, with a wall dropping away from -15 to
roughly -45. There are two small caves in the wall. one
at a depth of roughly 30m and the other at roughly 38m;
the second has a pretty white-sand bottom with a large
2Pinna nobilis" in the centre which looks like it was a
put there on purpose, the vault is perfectly smooth and
covered with "margherite di mare". As it is open to the
sea you can often find schools of dentex and amberrjacks
who find food in abundance, including small sardines and
shrimp. You can frequently see spiny lobster at around
30/40m and if you look carefully you could also notice a
spider crab or even a European lobster hiding in the
darkest corners. This area is ideal for breathtaking
photos and videos because, thanks to yhe crystalline
water, there is a lot of light even at a great depth.

A typical coral

colonized by wavy "Eunicella cavolini", hiding numerous
